About Department

Education Department of this VNSG University has its origin from 1973. The education department is the only Grant in Aid institution in the entire south Gujarat Region (across seven districts i.e. Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Narmada, Dang, Bharuch, Tapi and UT of Daman & Dadra and Nagar Haveli) that provide P.G. courses in the education faculty. The department also has one self-finance unit for the M.Ed. programme to cater the needs of the students. The department is a Teacher Education institute. The department offers M.Ed. programme (having two units one is grant in aid and the other is self-financed) recognized by the NCTE. The department also offers Doctor of Philosophy programme in the field of education.

The Department has the distinction of being a resourceful Teacher Education center due to the pedagogical and research contribution in the field of education. Doctoral guidance is being provided efficiently by the faculty members and about 160 Ph. D.s have been produced till to date. Under foreign collaboration research projects have been carried out. Many research projects have been financed by UGC, ICSSR, GUJCOST and other granting agencies. This department has renounced recognition at National and international level since its inception. Many state level, National level and International level Seminars, Workshops and Conferences are being organized.

The department has highly qualified and efficient faculty. Faculties of the Department are continuously involved in publication of books too.Faculties of the Department are also publishing research papers and thematic articles in various National and International journals and Magazines. The department has adequate and updated physical infrastructure.

The purpose of M.Ed. programme is to prepare learners for higher level function in education including teacher education who have a broad understanding of contemporary concerns of education like philosophical, psychological, sociological foundations of education along with Tool Courses, Specific Specialization and Elective Specialization and research.

The core objective of M.Ed. programme is to prepare students for productive career in teaching. The 2 year M.Ed. programme is designed to provide opportunities for students to know, understand and extend knowledge of perspective courses such as philosophy, sociology, history, political economy, psychology of education, education studies and curriculum studies. The students also extend as well as deepen their knowledge and understanding of tool courses such as basic and advanced level of research, academic writing, communication skills, ICT skills, self development in specialise in selected areas such as gender and society, inclusive education, yoga education, academic writing. The M.Ed. programme provides focussed exposure and experiences in teacher education through internship. The students also develop research capacities, leading to specialization in either elementary education or secondary education.

PO2 : Know, understand and apply the perspective courses such as philosophy, sociology, history, political economy, psychology of education and education studies.
PO3 : Understand and apply tool courses such as basic and advance level educational research, academic writing, communication skills, educational technology, ICT skills and self development focusing on gender and society, inclusive education and mental and physical well being through yoga.
PO4 : Understand, explore and analyze pre-service and in-service teacher education programme through field based internship programme in school and teacher education institutions.
PO5 : Understand, apply and synthesize knowledge of curriculum pedagogy and assessment, policy, economics, planning, educational management, educational administration, education for differently abled and educational technology at elementary or secondary level.
PO6 : Train students to conduct research, develop research skills and write research thesis.
PO7 : Prepare students for profession of teacher education

A candidate who was taken any one degree of these B.Ed. (with 1 or 2 year duration), B.A.B.Ed., B.Sc.B.Ed. (4- Years integrated Course), B.El.Ed., D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree (with 50% marks in each) at least in second class of this University or a degree of another University recognized as equivalent there to may be admitted to this course after having fulfilled the requirements as laid down by the university.

Passed B.Sc./ B.Com./ B.A. with Mathematics at 10+2 Level or at Graduation Level (with additional bridge Courses as per the norms of the VNSGU).

Research Initiative

Research

The Department shall continue its duty of imparting education through its M.Ed. course and shall promote research activities through Ph.D. course in education. The department of education shall equip the students in teaching and research competencies so that they shape their lives and contribute to the lives of others. The department of education shall train the students to develop teaching skills so that in future each student became a good teacher.

Extension

The internships of M.Ed. programme is one month long. There are two internship in the M.Ed. programme. Students serves as a professional at school as well as college during the internship. Community service is included as a one credit course in the M.Ed. programme. Faculty members of the department render their services as resource person and experts at various training programmes conducted by UGC-HRDC, GCERT, CTE, various universities and school. The faculty of the department also serves as a subject expert in interview of teacher educators as well as teachers.
